Construction Alert: O’Hara Street to Close for Several Weeks Beginning Monday, December 2, 2024

O’Hara Street will be closed from Bouquet Street to Thackeray Avenue beginning Monday, December 2, for up to two weeks to complete key work on the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center project. The PG garage will remain accessible as will the sidewalk in front of Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic.

Additionally, Pittsburgh Water & Sewer Authority (PWSA) will begin a project on O’Hara Street starting December 9 that is estimated to last for 4-6 weeks. This is expected to be completed in phases to keep the road as accessible as possible with PWSA re-opening sections as soon as is practical. The University is in active communication with PWSA about this project and working to potentially provide access options during major events, etc. This is still being evaluated.

Given the nature of this project, we plan to update this page as we receive more information about PWSA’s anticipated schedule. You can expect to see news about which areas will be closed on which days along with other details that may impact your ability to navigate campus.

UPDATES

December 4, 2024: We have confirmed that there will be construction employees on site to help direct traffic. We also recommend that cyclists traveling to this area dismount from their bicycle/scooter/etc. and walk along the sidewalk. We ask that you please do not cycle on the sidewalk to ensure a safe environment for pedestrians. Cyclists can loop around Benedum Hall by using Thackery Avenue, Engineering Department Drive, and North Bouquet Street. If this impacts your decision on where to store your bicycle, please refer to the bike map to find convenient options.
