Construction Alert

Beginning Monday, February 17, the portion of O’Hara Street between Thackeray Avenue and University Place will be reduced to a single lane of traffic from 6 a.m – 3 p.m. This work is expected to last through March 7. Flaggers will be present during working hours to control the flow of traffic, alternating the flow of traffic; please follow the flaggers’ instructions for safety. During this time, sidewalks and crosswalk will remain open to pedestrians. All building entrances will remain accessible.

A portion of Lothrop Street between Victoria Street and the UPMC Presbyterian pedestrian bridge will be closed to all traffic on Saturday, February 8 from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Emergency Room entrance and exit at the corner of Lothrop and Victoria Streets will remain accessible.

Victoria Street will be closed to pedestrians, vehicles, and cyclists between Darragh Street and Lothrop Street over the weekend of January 25-26. The closure will begin at 6 a.m. on January 25 and conclude by 9 p.m. on January 26. Due to the proximity to neighboring hospitals, life flight and ER operations will take precedence to this work if necessary.

Engineering Department Drive will be closed to pedestrians and vehicles on Friday, January 24 from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. The closure includes the entirety of the road, which spans from North Bouquet Street to Thackeray Avenue behind Benedum Hall. The loading dock and parking spaces will not be available at this time. Detours and signs will be posted at the site.

The right lane of Forbes Avenue alongside Hillman Library will be closed through Monday, March 31, 2025, as part of the final phase of construction on the project. This additional closure will not impact the current detours for pedestrians. An illuminated sign with a blinking arrow will be placed at the site to indicate to motorists that they need to merge left. There will also be signage in front of Lawrence Hall to alert motorists in advance of the closure.

The southern sidewalk along Bigelow Boulevard adjacent to Crawford Hall will be closed starting December 16, 2024, for an approximate duration of three months. The reopening is targeted for March 15, 2025. This closure will allow construction crews to perform work on the roof of the building.

O’Hara Street will be closed from Bouquet Street to Thackeray Avenue beginning Monday, December 2, for up to two weeks to complete key work on the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center project. The PG garage will remain accessible as will the sidewalk in front of Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic.

Engineering Department Drive will be partially closed to pedestrians and vehicles on Monday, November 25 and Tuesday, November 26 from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. to allow the construction crew to lift steel onto the roof of Benedum Hall as part of the green roof project. The closure will begin at the intersection with Thackeray Avenue and continue through to the loading dock. The loading dock will remain accessible. There are several parking spaces that will not be available at this time. Detours and signs will be posted.
